Almost Dave

Almost Dave: Under Me

Lately, the David Wilcox mailing list has had a good deal of fun writing parodies to David's songs. I've collected the efforts on these pages. I hope you enjoy.

I know I’m intelligent and that’s really irrelevant
And all of the world is a stage.
I want to quiet the din and get out of what’s been
A confining and limiting cage.
I hear a song and it’s distant
The words unmistakably clear
If I hold on I’ll know what He meant
The words to my heart are so dear:
To live life in the “now and the here”

...yeah, but who am I really, and trying to be,
and can they exist with you?
When I worry and stumble for meanings,
Can I bring back that time and that “new”?
Now I’ll surrender myself to the stillness,
And the mem’ry of you is with me
Still I wish that you were here in the darkness
Under me.

“Right-eousness” makes life into Simple
But Simple does not make it “Right”.
And “Loving” won’t lighten the burden
When “righteousness” follows our fights.
I’m overwhelmed and over tired
And can’t seem to find my way home
Why even dare, I’ve gotten mired
It seems that I’m here, but alone
No image in the mirror or chrome

But who am I really, and trying to be,
and can they exist with you?
When I worry and stumble for meanings,
Can I bring back that “time” and that “new”?
Now I’ll surrender myself to the stillness,
And the mem’ry of you is with me
Still I wish that you were here in the darkness
Under me.
Under me.
Under me.
