Almost Dave

Almost Dave: The Man

Lately, the David Wilcox mailing list has had a good deal of fun writing parodies to David's songs. I've collected the efforts on these pages. I hope you enjoy.

I’m the man who
Said I’d like to hear parodies
I didn’t know what a thread I’d start.
Now I hear that some
Fans say they are afraid of me
You don’t know how that breaks my heart.

Late at night after
Doing another show
I drive back to my hotel,
Feeling gratitude that
I have this gift to share
And I seem to be received well.

I’m the man who
Writes these folk songs for a living
I never dreamed that I’d get this far.
I go to bed hoping
Someone was touched in a special way,
If not by my words, then by my guitar.

As I’m drifting off
I think of what I said
As I stood in that venu,
What songs I chose to sing,
What my expressions were,
What did they like better: old or new?

I’m the man who
Travels ’round for a living
Always playing in diff’rent towns.
I’ve been to most of the
USA and to Italy
The state of Florida, though, I’ve not found.

As I’m traveling
Around from place to place
I know that I do some fine things.
Sometimes I make them cry,
But then the laughs will come.
I share a gift that I love to bring.
